The 509 Unfiltered
I HAVE A FULL TANK OF GAS AND QUESTIONABLE JUDGMENT.
The 509 Unfiltered started as one thing and, like most things in my life, wandered completely off course.
Now?
It's where I go when curiosity wins.
I road-trip. Geocache. Explore forgotten places. Chase weird shit I find on Google Earth. Pull over for ridiculous roadside attractions. Wander down back roads that probably deserve a little more consideration than I give them.
Sometimes I know exactly where I'm going.
Sometimes I see something and say, “What the f*ck is THAT?”
And now we're going there.
No perfectly curated travel itineraries. No fake influencer bullshit. No pretending everything went according to plan.
Sometimes the place is incredible.
Sometimes it's creepy as hell.
Sometimes I drive three hours to discover something is completely underwhelming.
You're coming along for that sh*t too.
Because The 509 isn't really about finding the best places.
It's about finding the interesting ones.
Weird history. Abandoned shit. Geocaches. Tiny towns. Strange buildings. Roadside nonsense. Local stories. Places most people drive right past without ever wondering what's down that road.
Unfortunately, I always wonder what's down that road.
And after 25 years as a cop, I still have the irritating habit of asking too many questions when something doesn't make sense. The badge is gone.
The curiosity problem remains.
So grab some snacks.
We're probably taking the long way.
And there's a decent chance at some point you'll hear me say:
“Well...this seemed like a good f*cking idea at the time.”
WELCOME TO THE 509 UNFILTERED.
No itinerary required.
